When you craft content to crush it, you soon realize, writing is integral to your success. If you don’t believe me, read on and see why writing wiz Ann Handley wholeheartedly endorses this premise for writing as the heart of content.
A great blog starts with incredible writing, no matter the featured media mix.
And while a blog gives writers and businesses, too, a perfect way to create an online portfolio for showcasing top work, there’s a lot more to it.
There’s a public relations component to your site, for example, allowing you to effectively communicate your brand and illuminate things like style, logo, color design, and an original tagline or slogan for your business.
Of course, once you get off the ground, you’ll have some technical aspects to contend with too, like share buttons to promote your content or automation for list-building. Also, you’ll want to automate ways for people to reach you either via comments, contact forms, or on social media channels.
There’s a lot to work on, no doubt. Let’s not even talk about email marketing. For now.
But, guess what? It doesn’t matter where you are in crafting your digital presence. Or, in advancing your tech game to grow an audience, gain attention, or increase your sales. It doesn’t matter what your minimal viable product or digital capabilities are, either.

The good news is, writers are in an optimal position to bring home the bacon and make their blog, or any site they write for, a top-notch and engaging blog.
Because you have the writing key for creating all the sparkling parts of quality content simply by talking to a single reader.
Writing to a crowd kills your voice. ~HennekeD
Words connect. Engaging people at a core level, one by one, helps you build and grow and will help you establish a solid foundation for your site—and your reputation!
Every detail counts in content and reflects you! And your business. So, make sure the effort you put out there is professional. Especially for your site but, for any other content assets you produce, as well. Business sites with bad writing and mistakes are everywhere but, if you’re a writer, it’s even worse.
Credibility When You Craft Content
Writers are taking a hit of late. Even major publishers and media are under scrutiny. (I’m still contemplating this “trusted sources” listing.)
With false reporting and inflated or slanted news accounts making mayhem, journalists and content writers are sometimes at odds, making ethical writing and attribution more important than ever.
This is another layer in the context of content and why the details matter.
Mistakes happen, sure. Dishonest words are another matter.
Along with projecting a voice and authenticity, integrity in your content, and in anything you write, matters.
But no worries. Since getting better happens each time you publish, it’s okay to keep creating. Put on your blinders and create content that matters to you and your audience, first. For me, I try to upgrade my work with each new thing I produce.
While I admit my web writing journey involves tons of experimenting, I also have a secret weapon for content that crushes it.
Extra, extra!! I’m willing to share my how to craft heart-stopping content cheat sheet with you…
I once called my secret weapon “an elegant champagne” but, she’s really dynamite in a tiny package, hanging out writing in her tiny house.
But, since Ann Handley IS the first of mankind to be titled “Chief Content Officer,” I guess you can say I’m going for the cremedelacreme of the content writing game.
Look, no matter what your genre or topic, your site needs content to crush it.
So whatever you write about, Ann Handley’s quotes on writing ridiculously good content contain valuable gems. Gems I like to refer to frequently as reminders to my content creating self.
It doesn’t seem fair to keep this away from other writers or businesses to inspire all the web for better content. You know?
“Annisms I Love”…Cheat Sheet for Creating Content To Crush It
Well okay, to make it easier and wayyyyy more fun for you, I created a cheat sheet via SlideShare called, “How to Craft Heart-Stopping Content: Annisms I Love by Ann Handley.”
In a recent webinar on “How to Level up Your Writing…” Ann distinguishes the foundational importance of the writing part of any content, saying this:
Writing is the heart of content marketing and content marketing is the heart of marketing automation! ~Ann Handley
Let face it; content marketing means you have a website as a writer, business, freelancer or whatever. In a big way, we are all content marketing in creating our digital footprint, sometimes without realizing it.
Still, it looks like it all comes down to writing! Hone your craft to heart-stopping, or eye-popping, and you’ll be well on your way.
I'd love if you’d take a look at the SlideShare, below.
Let me know if the “Cheat Sheet” slides of “Annisms I Love” with inspiring tips for writing ludicrously good web content—stolen directly from the fab Ann Handley—are helpful and inspiring for you, too. Thanks:)
